In early December 2021 we asked Representative Mike Sturla (HD-96 incumbent), Lancaster City Council President Ismail “Izzy” Smith-Wade-El (challenger), and SDoL School Board Member Luis Morales about their visions for Lancaster and to answer questions about where they stand on important issues. All three candidates were running to represent Lancaster in Pennsylvania's 96th House District.
On Thursday, December 16, new draft districts were announced. If finalized as the districts for 2022 and beyond, Lancaster will have two relatively safe Democratic districts (HD-50 and HD-96) instead of only one. The candidates below are no longer running in the same district.
In this endorsement process, Lancaster Stands Up members voted to endorse Izzy Smith-Wade-El in the Democratic primary! Izzy received 87% of the vote. Thanks to every LSU member who participated in this endorsement process. Read our endorsement statement here.
Our endorsement of Izzy holds for whichever district he ends up running in once the districts are finalized. In the new district maps, that would be HD-50. This also means we will hold an additional endorsement process for the new HD-96 district in February 2022. Stay tuned!
